When was the last time you said, “I wish I could brush my teeth?”
Unless you have no teeth, I venture to guess that the answer is “never.”
Because, when want to brush your teeth, you brush them. Wishing is not part of the equation.
Yet, for some reason wishing shows up way too often.
As in…I wish I were fit; I wish I could lose weight; I wish I could write a book; I wish I could have a new career; I wish I could launch an online program; I wish I could run a marathon; I wish I could make more money… .
I wish… .
But… wishing won’t make it so.
If you’ve made it this far into today’s message, I know something about you: You are someone who makes things happen. It’s part of your DNA.
If you look back over the course of your life, I’d bet that anything that you really, really wanted to do, you did… you figured out a way to make it happen.
Your “want to” trumped the “how to.”
And… wishing wasn’t ever part of the equation.
Connect again with what it is you really, really want…and then take deliberate action.
Slow, steady, consistent steps will take you there.
Don’t forget to brush your teeth along the way.
How often do we see and hear the “victim” mentality? It’s one way to stay where you are and never expand, grow, live fully – which, of course is safe and familiar. How is it some people overcome their stories and awful adversity and others never do? What is the secret, “magic” ingredient that makes the difference? I love Donald Miller’s concept of “editing our story”, adding characters and events to juice things up (“Million Miles and a Thousand Years” – thanks for the recommendation).
Such an awesome book… and yes… we get to create our story… in fact we have the obligation to create it.
