Always drawn to the outdoors, Walt Hampton became a rock climber and high altitude mountaineer. His love of photography grew out of his love for the mountains, always endeavoring to capture the elusive nature of high and wild places and the magic of the mountain light.

A student of the late outdoor adventure photographer Galen Rowell, Hampton has traveled around the globe from the Alaska range to South America, from the roof of Africa to the mountains of Russia and beyond. Hampton’s work has been displayed in local and regional shows and published in the New York Times. For ten years, Hampton was Master Teacher of Photography at the Young People’s Institute. He regularly shares his passion for photography through classes and workshops. His studio is located in historic Collinsville, Connecticut where he resides with his wife Ann, children and many dogs.
